Dalmia Cement eyes Goa market

Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd, the third largest cement producer in India is looking to larger market presence in Goa as part of its India expansion. The Goa market will be catered to by the company’s newly commissioned 2.5 million ton plant in Belgavi, said M K Swaminathan, executive director, sales. It is the eleventh manufacturing facility of Dalmia Cement in India, he said.

Cement consumption in Goa is expected to receive a boost from ongoing infrastructure projects and demand likely to grow five-six per cent in the coming year. To grab a larger market share Dalmia Cement is started beefing up its dealership network in the state through talks with 15 dealers initially. The company will be supporting them with end-to-end marketing, technical and logistics support.

Dalmia Cement senior management team was in Goa on Friday to announce the going-on-stream of the latest Belgavi facility and to meet up with dealers to fortify the marketing. Our cement brand was already present here but through our latest manufacturing facility we expected to easily service Goa customers, said Pankaj Madhukar Phadnis, deputy executive director, sales.

In the Goa market the company will introduce new standards in customer experience across the value chain. The cement is manufactured as per modern technology supplied by KHD, Germany and is expected to receive premium positioning in the industry, explained Phadnis.

A BSE and NSE listed company Dalmia Cement is in the cement industry since 1939. The company’s total capacity currently is 24 million tons and it is ranked among the top quartile player in the industry. The company is category leader in super-specialty cement used for oil wells, railway sleepers and air strips and is the largest producer of slag cement.

Goa’s cement market size is presently estimated at 75,000 tons per month and although recession in real estate industry is slowed down demand the overall prospects are robust, said Swaminathan.

The new Belgaum plant of Dalmia Cement cost Rs 1,300 crore and is spread over 380 acres.
